President of Ghana Olympic Committee, Prof. Francis Dodoo says Team Ghana will come home with medals.
The GOC President told Asempa Sports on Thursday after the meeting with Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK.
He explained that the athletes are well motivated to do mother Ghana proud and also believes Team Ghana is being represented by some of the best athletes in the world.
According to him, the athletes know the importance of winning medals at the Olympics and its impact on their careers.
He stated I am 75% sure that these athletes will not come home empty handed, they will definitely bring medals.
The President of Ghana Olympic Committee however on a cautious note said we should not put unnecessary pressure on the athletes for them to choke at the Games but on the contrary give them massive support.
“All the athletes need is massive support in these trying moments for them to put up their best performances and trust me if that is done Ghana will at least win three medals in the Boxing event, he added.
Chef de Mission, Nii Adotey Din Barimah 1 corroborated the GOC President’s optimism.
In a related development, Clement Ike Quartey, Silver Medalist at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome has joined the camp of the Black Bombers to lend his experience to the young boxers.
The Olympian told Asempa Sports that Ghana’s inability to win medals at the Olympics since 1972 is due to the lack of attention given to Amateur Boxing in Ghana but is however hopeful good tidings at this year’s event.
