An 18-year-old lady at Dzodze in the Volta Region is in police grips following the death of her 18-year-old fiancée in yet another case of bravado which turned tragic.
The man, Fagbe Kodzi, and his fiancée were said to be on their way to fetch firewood from Dzekpoyia, a village near Dzodze, when he boasted to his fiancée that he had spiritual powers which had fortified him against knives and other metal objects.
According to the Volta Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Joy Afagbedzi, Kodzi urged his fiancée to slash him with a machete she carried to ascertain the veracity of his claim but she declined.
He said bent on demonstrating his spiritual prowess to the lady, Kodzi began chanting some incantations and stretched out his left hand, insisting that his fiancée slash him with the machete, to which she eventually obliged.
Inspector Afagbedzi said Kodzi's powers failed to protect him, causing him to sustain a deep cut on the left elbow from which he bled to death.
He said Kodzi died on the way to the hospital and the fiancée had been detained by the police to assist in investigations.
