The Centre of National Affairs (CNA) is fuming over what it says is the contempt with which government has treated the death of some 17 Ghanaians in a galamsey disaster which happened in Cape Coast on Monday. A policy analyst with the Centre, Rocky Obeng expressed surprise that two clear days after the incident, the president had not bothered to visit the site or at least send a message of condolence to the bereaved families. Worst still, he argued, the president found it prudent to send a message of condolence to the US president Barrack Obama on the death of three US citizens who died, Monday in the Boston marathon explosions. “If the president cared about his citizens, couldn’t he have issued a condolence message to the families?” he asked. He said the careless approach by the government in dealing with the deaths is to say the least unfortunate. Mr Obeng is therefore calling for the immediate dismissal of the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Inusah Fuseini. According to him over 300 Ghanaians have died in the last two years alone in mining related disasters and not a single minister has been held accountable for it. Inusah Fuseini must be made the scape goat in order for subsequent ministers of the sector find clear and lasting solution to the galamsey deaths, he insisted. Meanwhile, the police are on a man-hunt for the chief who leased the land for galamsey mining in Dunkwa-Kyekyewere, the mine which eventually claimed 17 lives and injured several others.
