President John Mahama has charged his newly appointed Ministers to be worthy ambassadors in the fight against poor work ethic in the public service. The president said it can no longer be business as usual in the public service which has gained notoriety for laziness, low productivity and poor service. He said given the drastic increase in the public service wage bill it has become imperative to demand a commensurate increase in productivity by public servants. He told the first batch of ministers during the swearing-in ceremony not to accept the public servants’ mantra of that is how it is always done and exert “leadership firmly but in a polite manner.” President John Mahama said the electorates have high expectations of the government and they cannot let them down. He said the ministers must focus on delivering on set targets but must be modest about it. He also reminded the ministers to treat the public servants with respect and dignity in their line of work. Hannah Tetteh, Foreign Minister and spokesperson of the seven ministers who were sworn into office said they have taken note of the tasks imposed on them as ministers of state and will not the president down. She said they will work with modesty and humility and above all will be dynamic in delivering on the promises.
