Policy implementers have been urged to do their best to make the educational reform programme, which begins in September this year a success. The Mfantseman West Constituency Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Felix Nyarko-Antwi, made the appeal in an interview with the GNA at Mankessim. Mr. Nyarko-Antwi noted that in many cases good policies initiated by governments were made to flop due to bad implementation. He described teachers as the "axis on which the new reform programme will revolve" and appealed to District Directors of Education to ensure that teachers received their due on time. Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) should also institute incentive packages for teachers to make them happy to work harder, the NPP Constituency Vice Chairman said. "The monies, which some of us pay in engaging part-time teachers for our children can be used to support teachers", he suggested. The NPP Vice Chairman appealed to the government to ensure the supply of the necessary materials and books needed for effective teaching and learning at the right time. He noted that the introduction of the capitation grant had increased the size of classes and urged the government to provide additional classrooms to ensure that all pupils were accommodated properly in school. "No effective teaching and learning can take place in a large class," he stated adding that, "Such large classes undermine discipline". Mr. Nyarko-Antwi suggested the holding of refresher courses for teachers during vacation to keep them abreast with modern techniques.
