The authorities of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital last Friday handed over a 36-year-old man to the Korle-Bu Police for his excessive and brutish sexual appetite for his six-year-old daughter.
The victim, who had been on admission since March 22, 2007 for the treatment of buruli ulcer, reported the conduct of her father, Ekow Baidoo, to nurses on duty last Friday, detailing the many occasions the incest had been inflicted on her.
The Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mr Mustapha Salifu, told the Daily Graphic that following the little girl's complaint, the nurses referred her to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department for examination, adding that the examination confirmed that the little girl had been sexually abused.
He explained that Baidoo always took advantage of the time he went to bath the girl to sexually abuse her.
According to Mr Salifu, the nurses said they always heard the girl screaming each time her father went to bath her but they had assumed that she cried because of the sore leg.
He said Baidoo had denied ever sexually abusing the girl.
As to where the girl's mother was, he said Baidoo claimed she was in Takoradi and had allegedly refused to come down to take care of the little girl.
Mr Salifu said the Social Welfare Unit of the hospital had taken over the upkeep of the girl to save her from further abuse.
Baidoo is being detained by the Korle-Bu Police, while investigations continue into the matter.
