Man fries wife, kids

The Agona Swedru Police are on a wild hunt for a 40 year-old mason, Kobina Bismark Baidoo, a native of Huni Valley in the Western Region, who is said to have poured petrol on his wife Alimatu Mohammed, his son and the wife's niece, and then set them on fire. Baidoo fled Agona Swedru after the incident and has been playing hide-and-seek with the Police ever since then. The suspect is believed to be hiding in one of the villages surrounding Agona Swedru. According to reliable sources, calls to his mobile phone go through, but he does not pick them, suggesting he is within coverage area. Daily Guide was told that on July 2, 2010, a heated argument ensued between Baidoo and his wife Alimatu, over a refrigerator. The next day, the angry husband allegedly poured a gallon of petrol on his sleeping wife and the two children, three-year-old Abdul Saddick and Mariatu Adams, setting the trio ablaze. The chilling report indicates that Alimatu, a 'pure water' seller, had a problem with the refrigerator she was using for her trade and therefore pleaded with the husband to send it for repairs. The woman, after waiting for the refrigerator for over one week, questioned Bismark Baidoo about it when she had information that he had sold it without consulting her. According to information gathered by Daily Guide this generated a quarrel between the two, but relatives intervened to settle the matter. However, on July 3 at about 12:00 am, Baidoo allegedly sprinkled petrol on his wife and the kids and torched them with matches while they were sleeping. They were rushed to the Agona Swedru Government Hospital where they were admitted for treatment and have since been discharged. Source: Daily Guide/Ghana
