Mrs. Georgina Asamoah, Acting Chairperson of the Awutu Effutu Senya District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (AESDMHIS), has attributed the numerous socio-economic woes of Ghanaians to the mismanagement of time.
She urged the people to eschew laziness and learn to manage every minute of their time profitably, because time wasted on unprofitable things could never be regained.
Mrs Asamoah, was commenting on the devastating effects of time mismanagement on the socio-economic development of the nation over the past 50 years.
She said: "unless we learn to attach great value to time and consciously utilize it to our advantage, it would be very difficult to make meaningful strides in our national development efforts."
Mrs Asamoah observed that Ghanaians have often compared Malaysia and South Korea to their own country in terms of economic growth and development, saying that even though these countries appeared to be on similar levels of development at the threshold of their nationhood citizens of those other countries attached greater value to time and were able to manage it better to fulfill their economic aspirations.
Mrs Asamoah said Ghanaians could achieve remarkable successes in agriculture and other fields through hard work and proper time management.
She maintained that every thing should be done at a proper time to achieve good results saying, "even the sun and the moon perform their functions at the appointed time".
Mrs Asamoah, who is also a member for the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly, buttressed her point with the construction of Noah's Ark saying all the persons who joined Noah at the time of God's prophesy of the great flood were saved, while those who were late in joining him perished in the floods.
She expressed the hope that if Ghanaians cultivated an excellent time management culture, the nation would be a much happier, healthier and better place to live in for the next 50 years.
