A medical practitioner, Dr. Mathew Opoku-Prempeh, has been elected as parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Manhyia constituency at a primary held in Kumasi.
He polled 88 votes of the 131 ballots cast to beat Mr. Osei Assibey-Antwi, Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, who polled 43 votes.
Dr. Kwame Addo-Kufuor, Member of Parliament for the constituency who did not contest, commended the delegates for the decency with which they voted and called on them to be supportive of the new candidate.
This, he said, was necessary to enhance the party’s chances of winning the seat in the December polls.
Dr. Opoku-Prempeh said he would institute vibrant measures to help improve upon the party’s fortunes in the elections.
