The Extension Services Coordinator of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) is calling for the performances of District and Municipal Chief Executives to be measured by the cleanliness of their respective areas.
Speaking on 'Clean Communities' on the Joy News channel on Multi TV, Theodora Adomako-Adjei noted that "the Ministry of Local Government should start using improvement in sanitation in the districts as one of the indicators to assess the performance of DCEs, [since they are in charge of sanitation at the district levels]".
According to her, even though some steps are being taken to ensure clean environments, it is not enough in dealing with the canker.
"We have to step out of our comfort zones" she insisted, adding 'the minister should task them to do something about the situation, give them timelines, then the Ministry of Local Government should conduct regular follow ups to demand results".
The call by the Extension Services Coordinator of CWSA comes amid concerns that many District Chief Executives (DCEs) and Municipal Chief Executives (MCEs) are not doing enough to deal with sanitation situation in their jurisdictions.
She therefore noted that measuring the performance of DCEs and MCEs by the cleanliness of their communities will push them to commit more resources towards creating a safer and healthier Ghana.
Mrs. Adomake-Adjei further called on corporate institutions to also get involved in the fight for cleaner environments.
