Kumasi-based educationist, Theodosia Jackson, is drawing attention to what she observes is a relaxation of measures to contain the spread of Covid-19.

She is worried people continue to flout the protocols with so much impunity despite increasing confirmed cases.     

Mrs. Jackson, who is Principal of Jackson College of Education, wants stringent measures introduced during the partial lockdown revisited.  

The college is on a nationwide campaign to combat the coronavirus pandemic in Ghana, as a social responsibility initiative.

It is collaborating with Sinapa Aba Savings and Loans on the project launched in Kumasi, with a call on government to intensify efforts to contain the virus.      

Mrs. Jackson says the national response plan appears relaxed, as people breach protocols.

She says the stringent measures by government during the partial lockdown, especially at markets must be reactivated.  

“There is too much indiscipline in our markets as far as compliance to the precautionary measures is concerned. People are flouting the protocols as if the disease doesn’t exist”, she lamented.

Mrs. Jackson noted strict enforcement of the protocols in the churches will amount to nothing, until public recklessness is curtailed.

“The very people in the markets attend various churches across the country so failure to enforce the safety protocols in the markets makes the church unsafe”, Mrs. Jackson pointed out.      

She says it is unfair for sections of the population to disregard the protocols and endanger the lives of law-abiding citizens.     

Meanwhile, the educationist charges Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to pay particular attention to the enforcement of protocols at markets.

Head of Banking at Sinapi Aba Savings and Loans, Vida Marfo, appeals to market women to place a premium on lives by observing all safety protocols.

She says it is a collective responsibility of every Ghanaian to join the fight against COVID-19 in the interest of public health.
