Authorities at the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital are on the alert after an inmate reportedly murdered his colleague at the hospital four days ago.
The incident occurred after the suspect, Prince Amponsah, in a fit of anger after a brawl with another patient, attacked the deceased, identified only as Fuseini.
“On Sunday, during the power outage, one of the patients who sustained a cut on his forehead apparently in an attempt to inflict wounds on the forehead of the other rather inflicted serious head injury on the wrong person...whose bed was in the vicinity of the intended victim,” hospital administrator Asamoah Bediako narrated to Joy News.
According to him, the patient who engaged in the act has been abandoned by his family for nearly 20 years.
“He’s been dumped there since 1989,” Mr Bediako said.
Psychiatric hospital around the country have for years contended with patients who are abandoned by their families in the hospitals.
