A 22-year-old man alias Oldman, suspected to be mentally challenged has been arrested by the Nsawkaw police for defiling to death a 3-year-old girl.
The incident occurred June 30 at a village called Bramane in the Tain District of the Bono Ahafo Region.
An eyewitness, who is also the victim’s mother, told Adom FM’s affiliate station Tain FM that the accused dragged her 3-year-old victim, the eldest of three children, into the bushes and forcibly defiled her while her mother looked on helplessly.
She said Oldman threatened to butcher her to death with a sharp cutlass if she dared come close so she could only look on helplessly.
Sensing danger,the mother run into the village for help. The father of the child together with other residents rushed the victim to the Nsawkaw hospital but she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body has since been deposited at the Wenchi Mortuary awaiting autopsy, while the suspect has been arraigned before court at Wenchi.
