Mike Tyson doesn’t like the way that former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder appears to have given up on himself following his loss to Tyson Fury five months ago in February.

‘Iron Mike’ feels that Wilder (42-1-1, 41 KOs) can come back from this defeat and potentially beat Fury if he dedicates his life to getting the victory in their trilogy match.

Even if Wilder loses, he’ll still be a famous fighter and will be in demand by heavyweights like Dillian Whyte and Anthony Joshua. If Wilder is going to lose, then he needs to go out on his shield, looking brave and trying to take Fury’s head off with every punch.

Mentally, Wilder looks like he’s come undone by his recent loss to Fury. It’s like that old English nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty. After he fell off the wall, they couldn’t put him back together again.

Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs) and Wilder are tentatively scheduled to fight on December 19 at the new Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. The stadium seats 65,000 fans, but it’s unclear how many people will be allowed to attend the Fury vs. Wilder 3 contest due to the pandemic.

The stadium may only be one-third filled with 20,000 fans for the Fury-Wilder III fight. The fact that Fury’s promoters at Top Rank Boxing have booked the massive Allegiant Stadium suggests that they believe that crowds will be allowed back into sporting events by December.

Whether large crowds of 20,000 or more are allowed back into boxing events by late 2020 will depend on how well the pandemic is contained.

Wilder has been keeping a low profile since losing to Fury, and he’s not doing much to build interest in a third fight. Fury is already in the media giving interviews with hopes of getting boxing fans interested in the third fight, but Wilder has become the invisible man.

Unless that changes, the Fury vs. Wilder 3 fight will be disabled and not bring in the same kind of pay-per-view numbers that we saw from their first two fights.

“No there’s always a chance. Everyone always has a chance. It just depends on how much they want to give in to it. If he wants to dedicate his life to really winning this fight, anything can happen,” said Mike Tyson in talking about Wilder on his Instagram chat with rapper Fat Joe.

“Wilder can still make a lot of money. He shouldn’t feel sad or discouraged. He should continue to go out there and fight with a lot of zest and confidence,” said Tyson.

Wilder’s reaction to his defeat is one of the worst ways for a fighter to respond to losing a fight. He’s disappeared, and he’s not talking to the media. It seems to some boxing fans like Wilder has already given up before he’s even faced Fury again.

Wilder exercised his rematch clause to force a third fight with Fury, but in hindsight, he shouldn’t have. If this is the way that Wilder is going to act up until his trilogy contest with Fury on December 19, he should have postponed it and taken a tune-up.

The pay-per-view numbers for Fury-Wilder 3 will likely be horrible if Fury is the only one doing all the interviews, and trying singlehandedly to pump interest in their third fight.

Mike Tyson was forced to rebuild his career after crushing defeats several times during his professional career, and he was always successful. After Tyson’s defeat to James ‘Buster’ Douglas in 1990, he came back from that loss to recapture a world title in beating Frank Bruno.

Tyson was again put in the position to come back after he twice lost to Evander Holyfield. Although Tyson never regained a world title after those defeats, he still made a lot of money in fights against Andrew Golota and Lennox Lewis

“He’s feeling like he’s given up, ‘Oh my life is over, I made £72million so far but my life is over, oh lord, oh God, I wanna die,'” said Tyson on Deontay.

“Grow up man, let’s just keep going through this until it’s really over,'” added ‘Iron Mike’ on Wilder. It does seem very much like Wilder has “given up” on himself, as Tyson says. Wilder has a net worth of $30 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. The third fight with Fury will add to that sum, and Deontay can continue to make big money if he wins.

Deontay needs to have someone give him a pep talk because whatever chance he has of beating Fury, he’s giving it away by not showing confidence. The fans have always known Wilder for a guy that exudes confidence, and who they saw as a brave warrior.

But with the way Wilder has been acting since his loss to Tyson, he’s the complete opposite of that. It almost seems like he’s hiding, and that’s a bad look.

Yeah, it can work out in Wilder’s favor if he comes back to defeat Fury on December 19, but he probably won’t make the kind of money he could have because he’s now talking to the media to get boxing fans interested in seeing him fight.

You’ve got to feel sorry for Fury in a way because he wants to become a star, and the best way for that to happen is for Wilder to help build their third fight.
