It is now official that the coast is clear for former Police Director of Operations Kofi Boakye to resume work after almost four years leave.
He may have been recalled to head the Education Department of the service but it appears he still has a hurdle to clear.
President Mills has ordered investigations into his conduct in the mysterious MV Benjamin cocaine scandal.
According to a statement signed by Information Minister, Mrs Zita Okaikwei, the president, acting on the advice of the Police Council has asked the service to recall ACP Kofi Boakye from his leave.
He has however ordered a service enquiry into his conduct. The statement said the council took note of the findings of the Georgina Wood Committee of 2006 relating to abuse of office, corruption, professional misconduct and unsatisfactory service.
It said the enquiry is necessary because ACP Boakye’s conduct as established by the Georgina Wood report adversely affects the image and integrity of the police service and the country as a whole.
The former director of operations will now head the Education Department of the Ghana Police Service. He has been given a letter communicating his reinstatement and is expected to start work today.
