Samuel Awuku, the Director of Operations of the Alliance for Accountable Governance, has accused President Mills of being responsible for the fear and panic in the country.
Mr. Awuku who was speaking with Adom FM’s Adakabre Frimpong-Manso recounted various comments made by President Mills and persons around him during the 2008 electioneering campaign that sought to destabilise the country.
Awuku chided the president for "deliberately suffering from loss of memory" as, according to him, the president seems to have forgotten all the untruths he told Ghanaians during a period when Ghana needed cool heads to prevail.
Mr. Awuku said, on the day of the 2008 elections, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) held a press conference accusing then President Kufuor and the Chairman of the Electoral Commission of meeting at Aburi to plot to rig the elections. He said President Mills, as the then opposition leader, did not rein in his cohorts when they said Ghana was going to burn like Kenya if the NDC lost the elections.
He explained that on a daily basis there is information on the terror that is being meted out to Ghanaians by robbers and that the president should focus and work towards making the country safer.
Benjamin Akyena Brentuo of the Office of the President who responded to these accusations described the opposition NPP as suffering from a credibility crisis.
Buttressing his point, Akyena Brentuo accused Nana Akuffo Addo of failing to condemn members of his party including former President Kufour for allocating public lands and bungalows to themselves even though the flagbearer of the NPP is reported to have refused such an opportunity.
“If you find yourself in such a difficulty, it will be very much impossible for people to take you seriously when you want to advocate for altruism and patriotism and the need for people to be selfless,“ he added.
He advised the NPP to correct its credibility problems before throwing accusations about as they are gradually becoming unattractive to Ghanaians.
