The Minority in parliament have questioned Ghana’s expenditure at the 2010 FIFA World cup in South Africa which Ghana qualified to the final eight. The Minister of youth and sports, Kofi Humado believes the right figures have been presented to the house , but the minority are of a different opinion.The Minister of Youth and Sports Clement Kofi Humado told parliament that over $US18 million were receive from government, private sponsorship,text and win promotions. The Minister made this known when he appeared before the house to answer questions regarding how much was spent on Ghana’s participation at the 2010 world cup in South Africa.‘’He noted: ‘’the total receipt from government, private sponsorship and ‘text and win’ promotions for Ghana’s participation in the 2010 World cup is Eighteen million, five hundred and fifteen thousand, two hundred and fifty six united states dollars and eighty three cents(US$18, 515, 256.83)’’. ‘’Out of this amount, sixteen million, nine hundred and ninety eight thousand, nine hundred and fifty five US dollars and thirty seven cents(US$16,998,995.37) was spent on the tournament, leaving a balance of one million, five hundred and seventy thousand, three hundred and one US dollars(US$1,516,301.46) which was paid to government chest’’. ‘’Mr. Speaker, the expenditure covers the Black Stars camping and training tour in Europe as well as expenses on supporters and Ghana’s participation in the tournament’’, he said. However, minority ranking member on youth and sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah has contested the figures presented by the minister.According to him, the figures presented by the minister vary from what former Youth and Sports minister Akua Sena Dansua presented to the house in November 2010 and is therefore seeking to know which one of them is telling the house the truth. ‘’On the 4th of November, 2010 the then minister for sports, Akua Sena Dansua presented expenditure breakdown on this same tournament to this august house, the total expenditure given to this house then was US$7.195m, Mr. speaker, as we speak this new expenditure breakdown the total amount is US$16,998,995.37. Why the difference ?, he asked.
