Inspector-General of Police (IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh has assured people of the Volta Region of their safety as the country gears towards it's 8th general elections.
According to him, more security officials will be detailed as reinforcement to the already deployed officers in the region, to prevent incidents of violence, insurgence or uprising, which may lead to the loss of life and property.
The IGP disclosed this during his day’s working visit of the Volta Region to assess the readiness of the police ahead of the December 7th general elections.
He said the decision was arrived at following attacks on police installations and the Ho STC Bus terminal by persons believed to be associated with factions clamoring for the secession of portions of Ghana’s eastern territories.
"We will ensure that immediately before the election, on the election day itself and even after the elections, there would be more police officers dumped into the Volta Region to ensure that wherever is not safe is made safe", he stressed during a media interraction.

He, however, appealed to the citizenry to be committed to maintaining peace in the country during the electioneering, adding persons who would engage in violence would be dealt with accordingly.
"Whoever has any grievance, must put it through the authorized legal means and not take the law into their hands. I can assure you that the security agencies are ready and prepared to deal with any situation that arises on that day', he said.
Speaking on the weekend's clash between faithful of the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party in the Odododiodio Constituency, Mr. Oppong-Boanuh, explained the police would soon catch up with persons who incited and were involved in the bloody clash.
He further indicated that his outfit would ensure the culprits are prosecuted accordingly.
"When ever any incident happens, you can trust the Ghana Police Service, we will deal with it", he assured.
