A man is stranded in a flood and faces certain drowning unless help arrives. He assesses his options one last time and realizes it will have to take divine intervention to reach safety.
He started to pray fervently for God's intervention, whilst praying a big floating log appears within his reach but he continues praying, oblivious to the potential of the log being his salvation in that dire situation. After praying some more a coast guard boat appeared and the men on the boat inch closer to him and offer help but this man decided he will wait on the miracle he prayed for.
In a nutshell, the man dies and he ends up in heaven and decides to query God why he didn't save him after he had promised that he'd be there for him and never forsake him.
I have feeling you have a few choice words for this guy. Many a time, we overlook the seemingly innocuous things around us for the grand appearance of some angel or miracle to help us out of a situation. Meanwhile we are surrounded by many miracles yet we go look for the spectacularly inexplicable events. Breathing, walking, seeing, the sun rising, birds chirping, the traffic lights staying green through many intersections on the way to work, all these are miracles we take for granted.
Consider Ghana, a land with gold, diamond, bauxite, cocoa, oil and the largest man made lake in the world. The land of many great men and women at home and across the globe, the likes of El Anatsui, Farida Bedwei, Jacques Kpodonu, Patrick Awuah, Yaa Asantewah, to mention a few. Our history is laden with moments that afforded us a breakthrough just like our man in the flood - independence, return to multiparty democracy, debt relief, a media that holds authority to account and stable political environment, oil find and subsequent production.
For Ghana the contrary of the adage that opportunity knocks but once holds true. The big question however is have we made if forwards with all these opportunities? We may not be where we want to be but there is a chance we will get there but when the next round of opportunities come, will we be ready? Will we recognized it?
That opportunity is coming just like today has and tomorrow will and you better be ready. India, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea and in recent times Rwanda all took their shot. Life is not a lottery and no success is achieved by luck. Luck after all is when preparation meets opportunity. Ghana must take her chances and it starts with you and I.
Tick tock..... Are you ready?
Go Forward. Make Rain
Shalom
