Members of Ghana's legislature are desperate to hit the campaign trail ahead of the general elections.
The legislators who believe the business of the House has kept them out of their constituencies have notified the Speaker, Edward Doe Adjaho to follow proposed date the House is expected to go on recess.
Parliament is currently considering passing bills some of which have been in the House for several years including the Right to Information Bill.
It appears the House may be delayed because it has to finalise the new election regulation aimed at changing the election date from December 7 to November 7 before it goes on recess.
Speaker Edward Doe Adjaho said the House has proposed July 29 for a recess of Parliament, but this has not been confirmed.
“We are here to serve the people,” he said, adding, the MPs may be delayed in the interest of Ghanaians.
This, the MPs have opposed arguing their campaign would be affected if they are not released early.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Minority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, said nothing would be allowed to delay them.
“This is an election year and there cannot be any timber locks in the way of the contesting parties,” he said.
“Mr Speaker that is just a note of warning I am sounding,” he said.
