The three week MTN staff voluntary community upliftment exercise dubbed "21 Days of Y'ello Care" has entered its second week. While the memories of last week's heart-touching activities are still fresh in the minds of many, the week two activities were even bigger and better.
Week one ended with a series of malaria screening exercises, testing, medication and supply of mosquito nets. Activities were held in Ashanti, Western and Eastern regions as well as in Accra.
Starting the week at Radiant Way School at Sakaman in the Greater Accra region, MTN staff, teaching and non-teaching staff as well as pupils of Radiant Way School with support from Zoom Lion joined forces to grass the school football field. The employees included top MTN Executives -the Human Resources Executive, Amma Beryl Benneh-Amponsah and the Chief Technical Officer, Mr. Eben Albertyn. Together with other MTN employees they defied the scorching sun to enhance the school's football field.
To MTN, a football pitch is multifunctional. Not only does it offer a platform to nurture Ghana's future football stars, it keeps kids interest in school burning at all times. Still on soccer development as part of the Y'ello Care activities, Staff in partnership with renowned football players held a football clinic in Tema Manhean. With support from Nestle Ghana Ltd., they also gave the children a talk on nutrition. The next day, the Y'ello Care train stopped at Korle Bu to offer the nursing school some tips on best customer care practices. Public officials, it is believed, offer their services with gross disrespect to customer service ethics.
At the Adabraka Polyclinic, staff painted parts of the clinic and constructed a ceiling at the OPD section in partnership with its contractors. The team also distributed mosquito nets to pregnant mothers at the maternity ward. This was done with the kind support of Hon Alfred Vanderpuye CEO Accra Metropolitan Assembly and Prof. Manu, Board Chairman of the MTN Ghana Foundation.
Within hours, one could hardly recognize the outlook of the clinic. New life was breathed into the OPD section which had been without a ceiling for some time. The team was highly commended for their hard work. What is very unique about this year's Y'ello Care exercise is that everyday's activity is accompanied by the donation of insecticide treated mosquito nets to beneficiary communities and individuals.
In the Chorkor community, Greater Accra Region, staff used their personal funds to pay for annual health insurance registration for some needy residents. About 200 identified deprived residents were registered onto the National Health Insurance Scheme. Staff went into the community, interacted with the members and donated some insecticide mosquito nets to the residents.
The 2010 Y'ello Care campaign is themed; "United We Care for Our Communities". The 21 Days of Yello care is an annual activity organized by MTN to enable employees undertake volunteering work aimed at improving their communities. This year's edition is the fourth and focuses on Malaria eradication, education and football related projects.
