Mr Castro Antwi-Danso, Business Manager at the Office of the Okyenhene, has stressed the commitment of Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin II to flush out illegal miners (galamsey) in the area.
He said as part of the operations the Okyenhene was assisting in efforts to reclaim degraded lands such as the filling of pitches for agriculture production.
Mr Antwi-Danso was speaking at a tree planting exercise organised by MTN-Ghana in collaboration with the Okyenman Green Foundation at Kyebi at the weekend.
The exercise formed part of the MTN 21-Day Y’ello Care Celebration by the MTN Foundation, dubbed: “Our Environment, Our Future.”
Mr Antwi-Danso advised galamsey operators to fill the pitches they create as part of their operations to prevent disaster.
He appealed to other corporate bodies to emulate MTN-Ghana to help in the development of the nation.
Mr Frazier Appeadu Malcolm, Adviser, MTN-Ghana Foundation explained that the 21-Day Y’ello Care days were set aside from the working schedule of the staff of the telecommunication company and their partners to undertake developmental projects in the communities.
He said the programme was also part of the company’s social responsibilities to the communities in which they operate in.
He said MTN Foundation was planting 21,000 productive plants globally, whilst Ghana’s Foundation was focusing on more than 9,000 trees.
Mr Malcolm said the company would give out money to the Okyenman Green Foundation for the day-to-day management of the trees.
