Telecommunications giants and lead sponsor of Ghana’s prestigious FA Cup, MTN have sent a message to Medeama Sporting Club to wish them well in their CAF Confederations Cup campaign. Medeama will be playing in their maiden African campaign after beating off competition from Asante Kotoko to win last year’s MTN FA Cup trophy at the Accra Sports Stadium.

By that triumph, Medeama qualified as one of two clubs to represent Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup. Medeama will take on Equatorial Guinean side Panthers in Malabo in the first leg of the first round of the competition on Sunday, February 9, 2014. The Mauve and Yellows are currently preparing for Panthers of in their base in Takoradi.

Despite this being Medeama’s maiden appearance in the continental competition, MTN believes they have the ability to do well and make Ghana proud. According to Richard Acheampong, General Manager, Marketing Services of MTN, nothing should stand in the way of Medeama as they attempt to conquer Africa.

“At MTN, we look beyond our immediate obstacles. We know that we can succeed at anything if we put our hearts and minds to it. We encourage you to demonstrate the ‘Can do spirit’ as you enter this competition”.

It will be recalled that MTN gave Medeama GH¢50,000 to support the club’s African campaign in addition to the money prize for winning the MTN FA Cup. That GH¢50,000 reward was part of MTN’s commitment to help winners of the MTN FA Cup to adequately prepare for the CAF Confederations Cup.

If Medeama are able to judiciously use the monetary support MTN has given them, them the telecom giants will be encouraged to continue supporting future winners of the MTN FA Cup.
The Mauve and Yellows are not leaving anything to chance and have recently announced the signings of veteran players such as Samuel Adade, Kofi Agyare, Benjamin Akuffo and Michael Helegbe to help them in the Confederations Cup.

Congolese referee Messie Jessie Oved will take charge of Medeama’s game against Panthers FC. He will be assisted on the lines by compatriots Richard Bouende Malonga and Glo-Bossin Bissila Bisseyou with Lazard Tsiba Kamba serving as reserve referee. Cameroonian Abubacar Alin Konate will also serve as the match commissioner.

It is important to also note that Medeama are through to the last 16 stage of this year’s MTN FA Cup competition after beating Pure Joy FC 2-0 over the weekend.
