Sheikh Nkansah Agyekum, National Imam of the Ghana Muslim Mission, has called on Muslims to ensure that peace and unity prevailed among them.
He said Islam stood for peace and that anything short of peace would bring the religion into disrepute.
Sheikh Agyekum made the call at the opening of a four-day seminar for Imams drawn from the Brong Ahafo, Western, Ashanti, and the Northern Regions in Kumasi on Sunday.
About 500 Imams are taking part in the seminar which is under the theme; "Leadership Training and Social Matters".
It is aimed at upgrading the knowledge of the Imams and to bring them together to find solutions to their problems.
It is also to empower them to propagate the gospel of Islam to their communities.
Sheikh Agyekum urged them to help fight the stigma which had been attached to Muslims saying that everything bad is always attributed to "Zongo Boys".
He expressed the hope that the participants would impart the knowledge to be acquired unto their communities for national development.
Dr Sheikh Amin Bonsu, Acting Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Mission, urged them to lead exemplary lives worthy of emulation.
He advised them to educate the communities on government's policies and programmes.
Alhaji Mohammed Kwasi Kyereampem, an elder of the Mission who chaired the function, charged the participants to train their children to become useful citizens.
