Tulasi Kafui, District Manager of the Suhum Kraboa/Coaltar District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme has observed that the scheme had impacted positively on the people in the district.
He said with the introduction of the scheme, a lot of people now send their ailment to the hospital for early medical treatment and sick people who formerly would not go to the hospital because of the cash and carry system could now go for treatment.
Mr Kafui disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency at the scheme Secretariat at Suhum in the Eastern Region.
He said because of the Health Insurance Scheme, many people sought treatment at the hospital early and that had helped to reduce the death rate in the district.
Mr. Kafui said more than 36,000 people, including 41 blind and some indigenes have so far registered with the scheme in the Suhum Kraboa/Coaltar District.
He commended the two doctors at the Suhum Government Hospital, Dr. Lt. O. Akpado (rtd), Dr G.K. Kyei and Dr A. O. Nartey Marbel of Frida Memorial clinic for cooperating with the scheme operators and by encouraging patients who visited the hospital to register as members of the health insurance scheme.
