Legendary musician and songwriter, Akosua Agyapong has revealed that the late Highlife musician Nana Kwame Ampadu persuaded her mother to let her pursue music.
According to Akosua Agyapong, her mother was a fan of the late highlife musician and therefore had no choice but to listen to him.
“I love writing songs and I love to make sure the songs I write will be songs that will take me far. I used to write inter schools games songs and then we take them out there to make noise about it. After school, I realised that not just the dancing but I love writing songs. I told my mum, I want to be a musician and she said no! Because I want you to continue after form 5.
"I finished Holy Child in 1986 and wanted to do my music but my mum said no so that was when I brought in Nana Ampadu. For Nana Ampadu to come and talk to my mum and also convince her. My mum liked Nana Ampadu’s songs," she recounted.
Speaking to Becky on E Vibes, Akosua Agyapong said her mother used to play the late Nana Kwame Ampadu’s songs every Saturday.
"Every Saturday, you will think my mum is doing a party. She will play Nana Ampadu’s songs as well as AB Crenstil, Paapa Yankson and other old musicians’ songs.”
Nana Ampadu, popularly known as 'Nnwomtofohene', died on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at the Legon Hospital in Accra after a short illness. He was 76 years old. He left behind a wife, Madam Joyce AB Frimpong, 24 children and 30 grandchildren.
