The Executive Secretary of Narcotics Control Board Yaw Akrasi Sarpong has disclosed, he may soon tender in his resignation after taking blame for lapses which led to seizure of huge quantities of marijuana and cocaine from Ghana on two occasions last week in UK.
British officials announced on Friday that they intercepted another drug consignment smuggled from Ghana, a day after a similar seizure.
Officials at London Heathrow Airport said a consignment of cocaine concealed in plantains from Ghana was seized a day after the biggest cannabis haul seizure from Ghana at the airport.
The UK Border Force said the cocaine weighed about 7.5 kg. The agency found the consignment Tuesday September 25, 2012 hidden inside plantains, within a larger freight consignment of fruit and vegetables from Ghana.
Joy News has sighted a copy of report of investigations so far. It shows the NACOB officials were not at work during the export at the Aviance cargo of the Kotoka International Airport.
The report also cites official complicity and negligence of all the other security agencies at post.
Mr. Sarpong told Sammy Darko he was considering resigning because his men and systems he had put in place have failed him. He spoke to Sammy Darko.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sarpong has also served notice to sue NPP fire brand Kennedy Agyarpong for alleging on his radio station that he deals in weed.
Mr. Sarpong has vowed to deal ruthlessly with Mr. Agyarpong over his comments.
