AS part of measures to prevent flooding during the raining season in Accra, the Greater Accra National Disaster Management organisation (NADMO) has lined up programmes aimed at clearing silted gutters to avert flooding.
The exercise which started in the Ablekuma Sub-Metropolis will continue till May 22nd this year and would also be extended to other Sub-Metros within the Greater Accra Metropolitan Authority.
Mr Winfred Tasia, the Greater Accra Regional Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management t organisation (NADMO), disclosed to the Daily Graphic that the programme would not be limited to the Accra metropolitan area alone but would cut across the whole of the Greater Accra Region.
He said the exercise was being carried out by the disaster volunteer group, Zoomlion, the communities and other stakeholders.
Mr Tiase appealed to the residents to desist from throwing debris into' gutters and structures on water ways.
He further appealed to the directors in the sub metropolis to ensure the residents under their jurisdictions adhered to sanitation rules.
To this end, the regional co-ordinator expressed his gratitude to organizations like Melcom, Voltic, Kasapa, the Royal House Chapel and GAMOT among others for their contribution toward the programme and called on other corporate organizations to emulate their shining examples.
