The District Chief Executive for Nadowli, Wing Commander (Rtd) Eric Dakurah, has urged members of the Nadowli District Assembly to ensure that in the delivery of services, the district distinguishes itself as a pace setter in gender mainstreaming.
He said, although the Assembly currently had a female Presiding Member and an encouraging number of elected and appointed female assembly members, they could do more to enable women in the district to break into other areas of male monopoly, where women could do better.
Addressing the first ordinary meeting of the Assembly at Nadowli, Wing Commander Dakurah, observed that the irregular inflow of the District Assembly's Common Fund was hindering the efforts of the Assembly in meeting its plans and programmes.
He announced that 105 Health Extension Workers recruited for the District under the Youth Employment Programme had completed the two months theoretical aspect of their training and were now undergoing field practical training in the various hospitals and health centres.
On the National Health Insurance Scheme, he said the coverage level had risen to 25.50 per cent as against 19.5 per cent that was recorded last year but noted that it was unimpressive. He urged the Assembly members to educate their people to embrace the scheme as panacea to efficient health care delivery.
The DCE said the Assembly also regarded sports development as one of its key functions and as a result, it had supported the Dynamos Football Club of the district to gain admission into the second division football league.
Mrs. Hycintha Abatu Gyang, Presiding Member of the Assembly drew the assembly members' attention to the low internal revenue generation in the district, pointing out that its quantum determined the level of common fund that came into the Assembly's treasury and appealed for their support and cooperate in revenue mobilization in their areas.
She observed that the district could only witness accelerated development, if they allowed democracy to be manifested by appreciating each other's views and contributions towards that goal.
