Flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo has consoled the family of immediate past Chairman of the Council of State, Prof. Kofi Awoonor, who was killed in the terrorist outrages committed Saturday at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi, Kenya.
Son of the late Professor Awoonor however survived the attack after sustaining gunshot wounds.
The Kenyan government says at least 59 people have been killed while scores have sustained severe gun wounds in an attack the Islamist group Al Shabab has claimed responsibility.
Nana Akufo-Addo in a statement on Sunday, described the death of the late intellectual as a “shocking”.
“I shall forever remember with fondness his erudition, wit and courtesy. The Ghanaian nation has lost a distinguished son.
“My sincere condolences and sympathies go to his family for their loss, and to his son who was also injured in the abominable incident, and wish him a speedy recovery", the statement said.
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has vowed to hunt the perpetrators of the crime.
