The Deputy Propaganda Secretary of the ruling NDC Solomon Nkansah says an Akufo-Addo/Bawumia ticket would give the ruling party a win in the December general elections without sweat.
Nkansah said Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as the running mate to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag-bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2008 failed to add the needed votes from the three northern regions to annex victory for the NPP which led to their defeat.
The Deputy Propaganda Secretary's comments were premised on wide spread speculations in the media that the NPP flag-bearer has retained Dr. Bawumia to partner him in the December 7 polls.
But the report are unconfirmed as Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to name his running mate on his birthday – Thursday March 29, 2012 at the University of Ghana, Legon.
Among the people named for the enviable position, Dr. Bawumia is the favoured candidate by majority in the party to partner Nana Akufo-Addo.
The astute economist arrived in the country Tuesday evening in anticipation of selection.
But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Solomon Nkansah said the NPP has worsened its electoral plight by choosing someone who does not repair the already dented image of its flag-bearer.
He added that an Akufo-Addo/Bawumia partnership represents a gargantuan defeat for the NPP - the opposition party waiting desperately to unseat the Mills-led government.
Solomon Nkansah noted that the NPP ticket would be no match for the Mills/Mahama ticket of the NDC which he insisted was tried, tested and is delivering on its Better Ghana Agenda promise.
However, the Greater Accra Regional Campaign vice-Chairman of the NPP, Titus Glover, a co-panelist on the programme disagreed with Solomon Nkansah but desisted from confirming or denying Bawumia's choice as Nana Addo's running-mate.
He said Nana Akufo-Addo had the sole prerogative to choose his running mate after consultations with the National Council of the NPP.
The NPP man urged Nana-Addo to be firm in his choice of a running mate to enable the party present a formidable team to face the NDC boot-for-boot.
Titus Glover entreated NPP members to support any candidate their flag-bearer presents for a resounding victory in the December.
