Members of the National Steering Committee (NSC) on Child Labour have been called upon to be more dedicated and committed to activities of the committee for policy change.
The NSC is the highest body that provides policy guidelines to government towards the elimination of child labour for national development.
Mr Mawutor Abor, Director of Social Development at the Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare, speaking at a two-day workshop at Dodowa, said there had been some challenges in the implementation of its activities including monitoring, coordinating and meeting to review child labour interventions.
The objective of the workshop, among others, was to review the performance of the committee and equip it with skills in child labour advocacy, sensitisation and social mobilization to facilitate the coordination and promotion of the rights of children.
He said the current NSC had made significant progress over the previous committee but there were challenges still to be addressed.
“Challenges and emerging issues of the committee include lack of technical and technological capacity, lack of logistic and inadequate assertiveness, inconsistent representation and lack of feedback,” he said.
He said the committee had also developed an Action Programme to assist in adequately equipping the committee to effectively carry out its mandate.
Mr Abor advocated motivation for committee members to effectively dispatch their duties.
He commended partners, especially the International Labour Organisation, for their support in the elimination of child labour in Ghana.
