The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has said the brouhaha in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is as a result of the unclear ideological foundation of the party.
He said Rawlings’ faction and NDC’s Nkrumaist proponents are engaging in a turf war, with each side trying to take hold of the party.
He said the NDC is going through a "self-inflicted collective agony".
The prevailing situation, he said, has become possible due to the party’s weak or non-existent political roots.
Kweku Baako was contributing to discussions on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Wednesday.
Mr Rawlings, who is the founder of the NDC, recently said it was time for the NDC to be cleaned, and has also urged its leadership to reject Mills –whom he accuses of turning the party into another [CPP] - as he clandestinely canvassing for Mrs Rawlings who is aiming at the presidency.
Utterances by the former President since the NDC came to power in 2009, according to some political analysts, suggest that Mr Rawlings wants to reclaim his party.
