The Ledzokuku Krowor constituency office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) turned chaotic when some aggrieved party members destroyed the party's voters 'register scheduled for exhi­bition.

The delegates, clad in red attire with some hav­ing red bands on their wrists and around their heads, gathered at the entrance of the party office preventing executives from exhibiting the regis­ter, which was going to be used on November 7, 2015 for the party's primaries.

According to the dele­gates, one of the aspiring ' candidates, Daniel Amartey Mensah, had infiltrated the register with foreign names, creating over 3,000 potential voters.

They constituency del­egates said the register therefore needed cleaning before its exhibition, adding that they would not vote until it was cleaned.

Mr. Mensah, who upon hearing the pandemonium at the party office tried to calm the situation, met  stiff opposition from the other faction who wanted the register cleaned.

He had to turn back with his supporters to stop the already bad situation from escalating.

No Credibility

Pope John Akorley, a party secretary at the Mantey Tsuru Presby elec­toral area, said the register lacked credibility as the process used to register delegates was'vquestion- able.

"Branch executives were deployed to do the registration. During the process, I realized that some people were doing another registration so I interrogated them and they said it was Daniel Amartey who asked them to do that," Akorley said.

He further disclosed that the constituency exec­utives were notified of the happening during the reg­istration exercise and they assured them that it was only the registration done by the executives that would be used.

Mr. Akorley stressed that there could not be any voting if the alien names were not removed from the register.

"Without a new regis­ter we are not going to vote in Teshie so we are calling the attention of the regional and national exec­utives to do exactly what the constituency present­

Response

Mr. Mensah, respond­ing to the allegation, attributed what was hap­ping to lack of popularity on the part of one of the aspirants.

He said those protest­ing and alleging that he (Mensah) had smuggled names into the register were illiterate as far as the registration is concerned.

"If somebody who votes in Teshie registered at La his name will be in the register here," he said.

He added that the process was for the exhibi­tion to go on so that any alien names would be removed, "but because they have lost the ground they wish the election would not come on."
