The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has asked for the docket on rape allegations against the MP for Ho Central, Retired Captain George Nfojoh.
Joy News sources say the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service could take over investigations into the case after police at Sakumono decided to prefer charges, including blackmail and deceit of public official, against Captain Nfojoh’s accuser.
Head of Police Public Affairs, DSP Kwesi Ofori, who confirmed the transfer of the case to the Police Headquarters, said the CID would investigate the alleged rape as well as the alleged mishandling of the case by the police in Sakumono.
The woman, who gives her name as Sylvia, accused Captain Nfojoh of repeatedly raping her at gunpoint.
She told Joy News that she was charged on Thursday when she attempted to lodge a complaint against the MP.
According to her, Captain Mfojoh admitted at the police station that he had sex with her but denied pulling a gun at her.
In an earlier interview on Adom FM, Sylvia said Captain Mfojoh, who is a family friend, first raped her when she accompanied him to his house.
The MP had insisted that he wanted her to see his family so she could check in anytime for support, she said.
But on entering the house, she alleged that the MP pulled a pistol and pointed it at her face and asked her not to be “stubborn”.
According to Sylvia, the MP repeated the act at a guest house when he wooed her there under the pretext of apologizing for his wrongdoing.
The MP, after the series of sexual acts, refused to pick her calls and left her to her fate, she said.
Meanwhile, Captain Nfojoh says he has no hand in the attempt to prosecute his accuser, adding, the lady is only out to destroy him.
The Ho Central MP would not also comment on any plan to clear his name although he admits the developments are indictment on his reputation as a legislator.
“I have told you that I don’t have much to say,” he told Joy News’ Sammy Darko.
Gender advocate Ursula Owusu has condemned the attempt to prosecute the MP’s accuser.
Madam Owusu, who is the vice president of FIDA International, expressed alarm at the manner in which police are handling the case.
Reference to Privileges Committee
Captain Nfojoh would also not indicate whether he would refer the matter to the Privileges Committee of Parliament or not.
Asked about that alternative, the former military captain said "I don't want to go that far."
The MP has the right to seek the audience of the Privileges Committee to ask the lady to appear before it.
