General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu-Nketia has told a news conference in Accra his party is unhappy about the discriminatory attitude of some civil society and religious groups in the country. He said the NDC expected civil society organizations and religious bodies to address issues of violence in the ongoing biometric exercise as separate instances instead of blaming it to the NDC even when an NPP member is at fault. He was disappointed such organizations and religious bodies failed to condemn the recent ‘war’ declaration by Kennedy Agyapong whilst indicating that others were also not bold enough to address that particular issue without referring to a past NDC incident. The news conference was called to state the party’s position on recent political upheavals in the country. The NDC scribe said the opposition NPP was looking for triggers to cite as excuse should they lose the forthcoming elections. He also took a swipe at the media for being unfair to the NDC. He contended that the biometric registration exercise has been peaceful as compared to a similar registration exercise done in 2008. Mr. Asiedu-Nketia criticized the media for not hyping the fact that the Northern Region has not recorded any violence for the first time during the registration exercise and called for calm in violence-prone areas and said his party will do everything possible to maintain peace in the country.
