Central Regional Director of Communication for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the party is not banking its hopes on the yet-to-be created 45 new constituencies to win the December polls. Bernard Allotey Jacobs noted that the NDC will secure a landslide victory based on its unprecedented records even if the proposed 45 constituencies initiated by the Electoral Commission (EC) do not come into fruition. He was speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday. The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has raised concerns about the timing for the creation of the new constituencies but the EC insists it is its constitutional mandate to create the constituencies after the government has created new districts. However, Allotey Jacobs on described as myopic the NPP’s failure to see reason in the explanations by the EC. He said the deliberate posture of the opposition party to frustrate the EC in its bid to win power at all cost will backfire. The NDC Central Region Director of Communications alleged that the NPP has standby candidates in all the 45 new constituencies in anticipation for the passage of the Constitutional Instrument (CI) ahead of the general elections. Allotey Jacobs added that if elections were held today, the NPP will lose miserably. He indicated that the ruling party is working feverishly to ensure a resounding victory in the December elections. “Everything has been put in place to ensure the total victory of the NDC with or without the 45 constituencies; it is going to be a one touch victory” he said. The NDC man called on all Ghanaians to be wary of the supposed free senior high school (SHS) policy of the NPP since according to him, it is a vote winning gimmick to come back to power. Allotey Jacobs said there is the need to improve access and the needed infrastructure than making secondary education free. In a quick rebuttal, a member of the NPP communication team, Asamoah Gyamfi debunked the claims of Allotey stating emphatically that the free SHS policy will be implemented in the first term of an Akufo-Addo government. He said the comment that free SHS is not possible could only come from a “visionless party like the NDC” which he says is running the country based on propaganda. “They want Ghanaians to remain uneducated, half-baked so they can continue to lie and stay in power” he added. Asamoah Gyamfi said unlike the NDC which has made the payment of judgement debt a priority, the NPP is committed to delivering a literate country with a buoyant economy.
