Irate National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth in Damongo have vandalized the constituency office of the party and the campaign office of a Regional Minister.
The angry youth vandalized the party office and the office of the Northern Regional Minister Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru Limuna over his decision to step down from the party’s parliamentary primaries slated for November 7.
The irate youth match through the streets of Damongo chanting war songs and causing mayhem, according to Correspondent, Hashmin Mohammed.
“They were holding placards which read ’No Alhaji Muniru, No vote for the NDC’, ‘let’s practice democracy in NDC’, ‘We have suffered for long, Alhaji must pick the form’ among others,” he said.
They later converged at the party office where they pelted stones and chased away the constituency executives and vandalized the office.
Spokesperson for the agitating NDC youth, Asumah Sherif, told Joy News they feel betrayed by the Northern Regional minister.
“We went into a social contract with him. Therefore, to take a unilateral decision to step down is not only heartbreaking, but a stab in the back,” he said.
He said if Alhaji Limuna insists on stepping down, the youth will not take part in the upcoming primaries.
An Aide to the Northern Regional Minister has condemned the actions of the youth describing it as gross insubordination.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru Limuna is on holiday in Brazil.
