The National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth wing in the Western Region have condemned party activist Ras Mubarak for his criticism of the government. According to the group, Mr. Mubarak’s negative comments about the Mills administration were unfortunate and only exposes the party’s weakness to its opponents. The NDC activist who contested and lost the party’s National Youth Organiser position has been a passionate critic of government policies. Mr Mubarak recently attacked President Mills in an article describing him as a disastrous leader who would cause the party’s defeat in 2012 if not changed as a presidential candidate. Western Regional Youth Organizer of the NDC, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, tells Joy News the leadership of the party must call Mr. Mubarak to order. “If, indeed, Ras Mubarak toiled and put his life on the line at the expense of the party during the elections, it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, for [him] to cast a slur on the integrity of the President and to bring the name of the party into ridicule. He’s just being [mischievous],” Mr Akandoh said. According to him Mubarak seems to be looking for cheap popularity by “clinging to the back” of former President Jerry Rawlings to pass negative comments about the party. “[The] disciplinary committee of the NDC and the national executive should call Ras Mubarak to order and institute a disciplinary action against [him],” Mr Akando insisted. Meanwhile Mr Mubarak says he is not perturbed by the condemnation. According to him, he only expressed his views as a party member. “It is not borne out of sour grapes but is a measure of goodwill and people may have their opinion on whether or not what I am saying is right but I will like any debate on this to be centred on nothing else but the facts instead of the personality attacks that this thing has attracted,” he said.
