The Minister of Chieftaincy and Culture Asum Ahinsan has hinted that a new Bill to restrict the display of pornographic materials, be it on TV or in the newspapers will soon be taken to parliament.
Mr. Asum Ahinsan said the Cinematography Act (Act 76) has been found to be grossly inadequate to control the indecent, pornographic, violent as well as culturally unacceptable films being exhibited on screens in public cinema and on television.
He was speaking in an interview with Adakabre Frimpong Manso on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Friday.
According to him, the bill forms part of plans to minimize the effects of the exposure of such movies on the youth.
The Chieftaincy minister blamed parents and guardians for failing to take responsibility in the upbringing of the children.
He explained that some parents and guardians do not censor what their children watch and read in the media which is the major cause of the low levels of morality among the young ones.
