A delegation from the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC), led by Mrs Augustina Asare Osei, Senior Manager of the Government Relations Department visited the Atwima Mponua District Assembly to hold stakeholder consultations on the yet to be constructed distribution station in Adupri near the District capital, Nyinahin.
In his welcome address, William Darko, the District Chief Executive lauded the initiative which according to him, is going to be the bedrock of Bauxite mining in Nyinahin.
“All eyes are on Nyinahin. The Bauxite which is going to feed the Ghanaian economy for decades will see the light of day and because it will be refined here in Nyinahin, the siting of the Gas distribution Station is in the right direction to feed into the processing chain”, he stated.
Again he mentioned that, the team is also in the district to interact with relevant stakeholders (i.e. the affected communities) on the route of the pipeline and dicuss the processes for crop compensation claims.
Addressing the gathering, Mrs Augustina Asare Osei noted that, the Dawusaso-Kumasi gas pipeline project is to use Lean Gas for heating and power generation for the Bauxite refinery.
In her submission, she indicated that the Gas pipeline will also be extended to supply Lean Gas to power the Ameri Power Plant which is expected to be sited at Fumesua in the Ashanti Region”.
Elaborating on the project, the Senior Manager hinted that, the pipeline is expected to pass through 8 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), 46 Communities and 12 Paramouncies.
The Company will acquire a 35 meters buffer as it Right of Way where no activity can takes place to enable smooth passage of the pipeline.
She affirmed that the siting of this multi-million infrastructure will ultimately serve as a catalyst for promoting the industrialization agenda by Government and solicited the support of all present to make it a great success.
Present at this meeting were representatives of Security Agencies in the District, Heads of Departments of the Assembly, and some Assembly members.
