Nine amateur boxers will represent Ghana at the AIBA World Youth Championships slated for Baku, Azerbaijan from April 20 to May 2, 2010.
The team trainer of Ghana Amateur Boxing, Roberto Ibanez Chavez, told GNA Sports that he has 12 boxers currently in camp preparing for the global championship.
Chavez said he will name his final team later in the week before the team enplanes for Azerbaijan on Sunday, April 18.
He said the boxers in camp are made up of Sulemana Tetteh (Light Flyweight), Wahed Oman (Flyweight), Isaac Sackey (Featherweight), Musa Rahman Lawson (Bantamweight), Jessy Lartey (Featherweight) and Raphael Mensah (Lightweight).
The rest are Victor Kuwornu (Light Welterweight), Azumah Mohammed (Welterweight), Sena Agbeko (Middleweight), Ebenezer Quartey (Middleweight), Djibril Ahmed (Middleweight) and David Bawa (Light Heavyweight).
Assistant coach of the team, Ofori Asare, said the team is in good shape for the tournament which will also serve as the qualifier for the inaugural Youth Olympics scheduled for Singapore in August.
Coach Asare said that the boxers are primed for the event after engaging in a week-long contest with their Nigerian counterparts at the Sports Hall of the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra.
He expressed optimism that the team will make Ghana proud at the championship.
Boxers between the ages of 17 and 18 from over 105 countries will be taking part in the event.
The bouts will consist of three rounds of three minutes each with one minute of rest between rounds.
