The Northern Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Services has taken delivery of nine ambulances, valued at US$107,000 to enhance health delivery in the region.
The vehicles, which were procured by the Ministry of Health for the National Ambulance Service, will be given to the eight district hospitals and the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
The beneficiary districts include Bole, Central Gonja, East Gonja, Zabzugu-Tatale, Yendi, Gushegu, Saboba-Chereponi and East Mamprusi.
At a ceremony attended by DCEs and District Health Directors in Tamale, the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mustapha Ali Iddris, said the gesture is in line with government's policy to provide quality health delivery to the people. He was of the view that quality health delivery cannot be realised without effective ambulance services.
Alhaji Ali Iddris noted that the Ambulance Service will not only meet the health needs of the people, but also relieve patients from paying huge sums of money to be carried to referral hospitals. He appealed to drivers of the vehicles to ensure regular maintenance. The Minister also appealed to the District Assemblies to support the District Health Directorates to maintain the vehicles.
