Nine people have appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for re-bagging inferior rice for sale.They are Iddrisu Mohammed, Mohammed Yussif, Sulley Alhassan, Ali Huseinu and Alhaji Osman.The rest are Mohammed Ali, Shaibu Aleme, Eliasu Ibrahim, and Sulley Mussah.They all pleaded not guilty to the charges of deception of consumers and the court, presided over by Mr. Eric Kyei-Baffour, and granted them bail to appear before the court on June 15.Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendant of Police, A.A Anor told the court that on March 24, Officials of the Food and Drugs Board received a complaint that some people were selling inferior rice suspected to have been re-bagged as “Uncle Sam” and “Sultana” perfumed rice.He said a team of officers from the board and the Police Striking Force detachment proceeded to the scene and arrested the accused persons who were offering the re-bagged rice for sale.He said the accused declined to disclose the source of the rice and after investigations, they were charged with the offence.Source: The Ghanaian Times
