As preparations intensify for the annual Kwahu Easter celebrations in the Eastern Region, taxi drivers operating along the Nkawkaw–Beposo stretch have threatened to increase fares, citing poor road conditions and anticipated traffic congestion.
Drivers say the deplorable state of the Nkawkaw–Obomeng road is affecting their operations and is likely to worsen during the festive period due to increased vehicular movement.
Frequent vehicle breakdowns and rising maintenance costs have made it difficult for operators to maintain current fares, Adom FM's Akwasi Dwamena reported from the area on Wednesday, March 18.
“If the road is not fixed before Easter, we may be forced to increase fares because our vehicles are getting damaged,” one driver stated.
The drivers are appealing to the government and relevant authorities to urgently repair the road to ensure smooth movement and a safe celebration.
They also assured commuters of their commitment to safe driving practices despite the challenges.
Kwahu Easter is a popular Easter celebration in Ghana held annually. The event attracts families and friends, showcases both indigenous and foreign goods and services, and promotes tourism.
