About five government cars and some property were destroyed by irate youth of the ruling NDC in Nkwanta North, Volta Region, when they staged a protest against a possible retention of the current District Chief Executive for the area.
National Democratic Congress constituency secretary for Nkwanta North Joseph Wombe, who confirmed the Thursday afternoon violence to Joy News, said President Mahama has "diplomatically" been petitioned on several occasions against the re-nomination of Mr Paul Levin Gyato.
He said members of the party there are convinced the DCE would not achieve results for the party.
He said the youth embarked on a "chaotic" demonstration after picking signals that the president intends giving the DCE another four year term.
"The entire membership of NDC were peeved" about the consideration, necessitating the "rampage" by the youth.
"We will never relent until the right thing is done. We will continue to let the president hear our voices that it is indeed paramount that we achieve the peace we are ultimately looking for, and in order to achieve that we need a change and that is what the majority of the people are saying".
Mr. Wombe said calm has now returned to the area with military personnel patrolling the area to ensure order.
Meanwhile, he said some of the youth have taken their anger to the Member of Parliament for the Area, Mr. John Kwame Bless Oti, who has been warned to ensure that the DCE does not get the nod else he would be forced to vacate his post as an MP.
So far nothing has been heard from the party hierarchy, he said.
Meanwhile information available to Myjoyonline.com confirmed the renomination of Mr Paul Levin Gyato.
