Some 69 New Patriotic Party (NPP) polling station chairpersons in the Nkwanta South Constituency have registered their displeasure about a decision by the party's steering committee not to hold parliamentary primaries in the constituency.
In a petition addressed to Mr Peter Mac Manu, National Chairman of the NPP, the group threatened to withdraw their support for the party if their call for primaries in the constituency was not heeded.
"We wish to serve notice that our petition should be heeded or the party should not count on our support and involvement in its activities," the petition stated.
The group held that the decision of the steering committee could lead to division among members and subsequently damage the chances of the party in the next general election.
The petition called on the office of the President, the NPP Council of elders and the Volta Regional Minister to intervene in the matter to avoid the destruction of the party in the constituency.
"We demand an immediate consultation and possible re-opening of nominations," it stated.
