The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday accused the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of engaging in dishonest campaign in an attempt to discredit the economic gains of the government.
Mr Peter Mac Manu, national chairman of the NPP, speaking at a press conference in Accra denied a series of what he termed misinformation by the NDC.
They include an alleged Electoral Commission and NPP rigging strategy document, alleged involvement of President John Agyekum Kufuor in an oil deal and a tract, purported to be a list of 25 leading members of the NPP with bank accounts at the Prudential Bank with huge sums of money lodged in them.
Mr Mac Manu also refuted allegation of Voter Identity Cards buying in parts of the country.
He called on the management of the Prudential Bank and Bank of Ghana to investigate the list of 25 top government and NPP functionaries alleged to be holding accounts at the Prudential Bank with billions of cedis credited to their names.
“Today, I am asking the Bank of Ghana and the Prudential Bank to formally investigate and expose the NDC lies for what they are. The politics of personal destruction deprives our political arena of good people who could have served us but do not relish the prospects of people attacking their reputations unnecessarily,” Mr Mac Manu stated.
The NPP described certain documents and other “NDC propaganda material” being circulated throughout the country as “trash,” which must be discarded by the media and right-thinking Ghanaians.
He decried politics of insults, saying “it’s not good for our country as no insult has ever built a road or fed a hungry child or cleaned a dirty street.”
He therefore called on all political parties, especially NDC functionaries and “their media collaborators”, to stop the politics of insult and focus on issues.Source: GNA
