Former member of the Council of State under the John Agyekum Kufuor administration Alhaji Alhassan Bin Salih has died.

Salih died on Monday.

Until Bin Salih’s death he was a member of the Upper West Regional Council of Elders of the opposition New Patriotic Party.

Alhaji Alhassan bin Salih was born in 1930 to Alhaji imam Salih Alhassan and madam Salmata imam Salih. He had his primary school education at Wa Native Authority primary school from 1939-1945. He attended the tamale middle boarding school, Bagabaga from 1946-1949.

There was no secondary in the then northern territories until in 1951 when tamale secondary school was established. Due to that he had secondary education through correspondence tuition from University Correspondence College (UCC) London for both General Certificate Ordinary level and Advance Level from 1955 to 1960.

Alhaji Bin Salih has university education at the university of Ghana between 1961-1964 before moving to the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) from 1964-65 to pursue diploma in public administration.

He rose from pupil teaching certificate ‘‘B’’ to become the first northern Ghanaian to be promoted to a principal secretary’s position now today rechristened chief directors

He was appointed the council of state member by the NPP administration from 2001-2008 and was awarded companion of the Order of Volta (Civil Division) for dedicated service and patriotism.

In his political life, he is a pioneer and foundation member of the Northern People’s Party in 1954 which he later became the secretary for northwest.

In keeping with his center right ideology he remained with the Popular Front Party in 1979, when it was formed.  He was a member of the All People’s Party when PFP and UNC allied.

He was the kitchen’s cabinet chairman of Mr. J. A. Kufuor in 1998 to manage his electioneering campaign until he was elected president under the ticket of the NPP.

Alhassan Bin Salih regards himself and C.K. Tedem as the library of information with regards to the formation of the Northern People’s Party all through to the New Patriotic Party.

He was a member of the national council of elders of the New Patriotic Party. He is survived by three wives and 12 children
