Former deputy Attorney General, Kwame Osei-Prempeh, has come under attack from a group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters for declaring his intention to contest the Ashanti regional chairmanship slot of the party.
Mr. Osei-Prempeh was harassed by a group of NPP serial callers on the premises of Kumasi-based Ashh FM on Tuesday October 1 for coming out openly about his desire to manage the party's affairs in the Ashanti Region.
It is believed the group is backing another party man interested in the chairmanship position, however it is not yet certain who they are supporting.
But Osei-Prempeh will come against incumbent, Frederick Freduah Anto and Boasiako Wuntumi.
Sounding unperturbed after his confrontation with the NPP supporters, Mr Osei-Prempeh said his resolve to contest the position stems from his belief that he has "something to contribute to the [party] in the Ashanti Region."
"Ashanti Region is the heartbeat of the NPP. If the NPP prospers in Ashanti Region, NPP prospers nationwide", he said.
The former Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsuta Kwarmang Beposo constituency believes former MPs, District Chief Executives (DCEs)) and Ministers of the NPP must be given the opportunity to engage party supporters at the regional, constituency and grassroots level.
"We should put our experience and expertise at the expense of the party", he said.
He added that he had been impressed by how former regional ministers, MPs and DCEs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) took key position at the national level when they (NDC) were in opposition.
He said that strategy strengthens part-solidarity and has admonished the NPP to do same.
